FAQs

Below you will find the answers to many frequently asked questions. Please contact us if you do not find the answer to your question.

Q: Do you have a brick-and-mortar store?

A: Soap Snob does not operate out of a physical storefront. Rather, our business is conducted entirely online, which allows us the opportunity to reach a wider customer base and offer expanded hours beyond those of a traditional brick-and-mortar store. However, if you live in or near the Greater Atlanta area, you can often find us at regional fairs, festivals, and farmer's markets. Be sure to check our Blog for information about local events. You will also find our products in several local shops, salons, and boutiques within the Atlanta metropolitan area.

Q: What are the benefits of handmade soap?

A: Saponification, or the making of soap, occurs through a chemical reaction between vegetable or animal fats, water, and sodium hydroxide (or lye).  Glycerin, a natural byproduct of this process, is a humectant that attracts and retains moisture on your skin like a natural skin lotion.  Commercial soaps are manufactured in large factories where glycerin is often removed from the soap and sold to manufacturers of high end cosmetics.

In a bar of handmade soap, the naturally occurring glycerin remains in the soap and provides natural moisturizing properties.  Handmade soap makers pride themselves on formulating recipes using the finest quality oils and butters, whereas commercial soap manufacturers generally use the most economical ingredients available. Commercial soaps usually also contain detergents and other surfactants that can dry and irritate your skin.

Q: What ingredients do you use in your soaps?

A: You can rest assured that Soap Snob uses only the finest quality ingredients in all of our handmade soaps. Although individual recipes may vary by product, all of our soaps contain pure oils and butters including Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Avocado Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Safflower Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, Castor Oil, Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, and Mango Butter. To achieve our soaps' colorful layers and swirl patterns, we use both natural plant-derived colorants as well as skin-safe cosmetic colorants. To achieve our amazing scents, we use both natural plant-derived essential oils and skin-safe cosmetic fragrance oils. The ingredient list for all our products are listed both on the product page as well as the product label.

Q: I have sensitive skin. Is your soap safe to use?

A: Absolutely!  Most likely, you will be able to use our soaps because they are incredibly mild and gentle.  Most commercial soaps are detergent based, using lots of synthetic ingredients that cause skin reactions.

Q: Do you test on animals? A: We NEVER test on animals.  Our products are tested by very willing family and friends.

Q: Do you use animal products in your soap? A: All of our soaps are "Vegetarian Friendly" meaning, they are made using only vegetable oils and butters such as Shea, Cocoa and Mango.  However, we do occasionally use Milk, Yogurt, Honey and cruelty free Silk Fibers therefore all our products are not vegan.

Q: How long does your soap stay fresh?

A: Our handmade soap stays "fresh" for years. REAL handmade soap is like wine; it gets better with age.  As the soap gets harder, it becomes longer lasting and milder.  However, over time the soap may lose its fragrance intensity, so we recommend using within 6 months.
